Strong Third Period Propels Komets To Win

Kalamazoo, MI – The Komets improved to 14-11-2 behind a surge of goals in the third period to defeat the Wings 5-3. Josh Brittain got the scoring started 1:12 into the second period. Fort Wayne native Lincoln Kaleigh Shrock netted the next goal at the 8:28 mark.

Kalamazoo (11-13-3) got the next two goals as Kory Karlander scored at the 12:49 mark and Eric Kattelus scored on the power play four minutes later.

The Komets then opened the throttle on Eric Giosa’s even strength goal 10:47 into the final frame. Defending Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Week Ryan Lasch netted what would be the game winning goal with 4:57 left in the game. Right Winger Thomas Beauregard netted his 16th of the year on an empty-netter to ice the game with just over a minute remaining. The Wings did get one last goal 30 seconds later on Adam Polasek’s 4th goal of the year.

Rookie net minder Kenny Reiter made 16 saves on the night to improve the Komets season record against the Wings to 5-3-1.

The boys return home tomorrow night to face the Trenton Titans at Memorial Coliseum at 7:30 PM EST (4:30 PM PST). Audio is available through the Komets website or wowo.com.
