On July 1st, the Anaheim Ducks acquired veteran D-man Sheldon Souray. While some fans believe he may be a random and useless pick-up for the team. I feel differently. I believe he will be a good fit. Acquiring Souray could be moving the team in a good direction. Souray is 6 feet 4 inches and weighs 237 pounds. Souray is a big body that adds size to the ice. Along with Souray, General Manager Bob Murray also added a few other large bodies, showing that he may be trying to make the team big and more physical. As proven many times in the past, teams that have more size and that aren’t afraid to get physical, tend to be more successful. I have season tickets on the glass, and sitting that close helps you see which players are under or overrated. Souray was always very impressive when he came to Honda Center. He hits hard and he has a powerful shot. He also adds experience and leadership to the team. The Ducks locker room seems to be a little lacking in terms of veteran defense. Although it is great that we have lots of young, talented defensemen, they need someone they can learn from on the team. So my conclusion is yes, Souray is a very good pick-up for the Ducks.
