Western Conference Gets Shaken Up

There were several games tonight that had huge effect on the Western Conference standings.

Several teams swapped places and made the race pretty exciting. I know this no longer really concerns the Ducks since they are out of the playoff run, but it’s very exciting.

The Dallas Stars started the night by facing the Calgary Flames early in the day. They won 4-1, which jumped them to the head of the division and to 3rd in the western conference. That caused the Los Angeles Kings to lose their 3rd place spot.

The Kings looked to regain their title when the faced the Boston Bruins, but basically never stood a chance. They lost 4-2.

The Colorado Avalanche had a chance to get into the playoffs by beating the Vancouver Canucks, but they blew a 2-0 lead and lost it in OT.

The final game was the Phoenix Coyotes vs. the San Jose Sharks, which had points on the line for both teams. The Coyotes managed to keep their playoff spot, and San Jose stayed out. The game went to a shootout and ended 4-3 Coyotes.

In short:

  • LA dropped to 8th place (Yay!!)
  • San Jose and Colorado failed to grab a playoff spot
  • Dallas took over the division and moved to 3rd in the conference
  • Coyotes stayed in playoff spot
