The Ducks could not continue their amazing performance tonight, and lost 4-2 to the St. Louis Blues. They weren’t outplayed at all tonight, which made it a tougher loss. Bad bounces and a tough goaltender were keys in tonights loss.
Game Recap:
First Period- Ducks coming out strong, looking to keep the same pace. Blues strike first as Hiller loses a Langenbrunner shot and Porter shoves it in (ANA-0, STL-1). Ducks clearly don’t want to lose, applying tons of pressure. Ryan takes a beautiful pass from Selanne and ties the game!! Watch it here (ANA-1, STL-1). Hiller looks like a monster tonight, making huge saves.
Second Period- Started out a little slow, with neither team getting many chances. Ducks are outshooting the Blues, but nothing is connecting. Blues get a lucky goal, as a puck bounces off Ian Cole’s skate (ANA-1, STL-2). Those goals always suck, but the Ducks need to rebound. Ducks make a bad turnover and TJ Oshie is allover it with only a little more than a minute left. (ANA-1, STL-3). Koivu was taken off the ice and no news has been updated.
Third Period- Big period coming up. Smith-Pelly jabs in a Getzlaf shot to put the Ducks back in the game (ANA-2, STL-3). Looks like Koivu won’t be coming back this period, has a lower-body injury. Halak is standing tall, stopping TONS of great chances from the Ducks. Hiller is gone. Ducks cycling the puck and trying to get shots on net. Oshie scores an empty netter, sealing the game for the Blues (ANA-2, STL-4).
Game Stats:
- Selanne got his 899th point with the Ducks tonight
- Bobby Ryan has 3 goals in his last 2 games
- The Blues outshot the Ducks 24-23
- The Ducks went 4/4 on the PK, and 0/5 on the PP
- Koivu was injured in the second, and did not return in the third period
Tough loss for the Ducks. Halak was a key component in causing the Ducks to be unable to tie up the game late in the third. There were some bounces that didn’t go our way as well, but it is what it is…
