Ducks Hold On and Defeat Sharks

The Anaheim Ducks have won four straight, and improved their record to 4-0-1 for the season! They beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2.

Although the Ducks didn’t dominate most of the game, they were able to grab the early lead and with a spectacular performance from Ellis, they held on.

Game Recap:

First period-

The first period was in the Ducks control and Teemu Selanne showed his brilliance by scoring two goals. The first goal was on the power-play (of course) and the second was burying a Saku Koivu rebound. Matt Beleskey and Andrew Desjardins dropped gloves towards the end of the period.

Second period-

The Sharks “scored” their first goal of the game when a ricochet hit off of Bobby Ryan’s skate and in between Eliis’ legs.  It was a lucky goal, but thankfully it didn’t cost us the game.

Third period-

Corey Perry netted a beautiful wrister from the point to give the Ducks a two goal lead. The Ducks took a series of idiotic penalties and the Sharks were able to cut the lead to one when Brent Burns scored.  Francois Beauchemin took a puck to the face, but thanks to his visor he appears to be okay. The Sharks attempted to pelt Ellis with shots, but he held strong and the Ducks won.

Stats:

  • The Ducks went 6/7 on the PK, and 1/4 on the PP
  • Ellis stopped 41 of 43 shots, Niemi stopped 19 of 22
  • Beauchemin led all defensemen in ice time with 24:23
  • Perry led all forwards in ice time with 20:39
  • The Ducks current record 4-1-0 is their best since the 2006-2007 season
  • Teemu Selanne has 639 career goals, only one behind Dave Andreychuk (640) which would put him at #13 all time.

The Ducks next game is against the Dallas Stars, on October 21st.
