According to a recent interview with the Finnish newspaper, Turun Sanomat, Teemu Selanne will not be interested in returning to the Ducks if they are planning on going into “rebuilding” mode next season.
Selanne said he would consider returning “…if Anaheim decides that is still wants to win next season and if it wants to keep the team more or less the same.” He went on to comment about fellow Finn Saku Koivu, “”Saku, too, is in a situation where he wants to continue to play [for] a winning team.”
Koivu is still without a contract and all indicators are pointing at the Finns keeping solidarity and the Ducks will get all or nothing for next season.
Is Teemu done? Has the Flash crashed? He has, of course, lost some of his speed, but his experience is priceless and he has been a wonderful mentor and source of endless encouragement to the kids, so losing him would leave an extremely large hole in the team. Especially if Scotty decides to retire as well. Then next season will truly be a rebuild.
