Pogge re-assigned

The Ducks have announced that backup goalie Justin Pogge has been re-assigned to Bakersfield of the ECHL. Pogge has not played a single minute for the Ducks this season as Jonas Hiller played every game while J.S. Giguere recovers from a groin injury.

This, of course, means that Giguere is healthy enough to play for the Ducks on this upcoming road trip. The Ducks will be playing four very good teams as they head East, so it will be interesting to see how Giguere is used by Coach Randy Carlyle.

Hiller has done a good job in net for the Ducks as they’ve begun to turn their season around. Although he’s let in some bad goals at times, he has backstopped the Ducks to every one of the team’s wins this season. Carlyle will have to decide whether to continue with Hiller, who has played a lot of minutes recently, or give Giguere a chance to get back in net and try to compete for the number one job again.

Another incentive to play Giguere would be the trade rumors that are still flying around. The OC Register wrote here about a possible trade of Giguere to Toronto, which itself is nothing new, but provided some details of what the deal might look like.

I’ll provide more details about the road trip tomorrow and each game day.
