This is part 5 of my Prospect File series where I update you guys’ on Hockey’s Future’s Top 20 Anaheim Ducks prospects. This will be a daily series that will hopefully end before the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. I will also be doing a series on possible players the Ducks will take with their first round pick. Part 4 was on winger Charles Sarault. So, next up in part 5 is #16 on HF’s Top 20, center Joseph Cramarossa.

via intelligencer.ca

20-year-old Joseph Cramarossa was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The Markham, Ontario native is coming off his best season in the Ontario Hockey League and his last as well. He was traded to the Belleville Bulls two years ago from the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, now known as the Steelheads. In his only full season with the Bulls, he had career highs in nearly every major category. He finished the regular season with 19 goals and 44 assists for 63 points in 68 games played. He also registered 89 PIM and was a +19. Cramarossa played a big role in the Bulls’ playoff run to the OHL Eastern Conference Finals, tallying 5 goals and 4 assists for 9 points in 17 games. He is a former teammate of Devante Smith-Pelly in Mississauga. Cramarossa is a straight up grinder. He’s a very physical guy who could develop into a Matt Beleskey or Chris Kunitz type of player. But, like I said in the part on Sarault, the Ducks have a lot of top prospects at the center position. Cramarossa’s career will really start to fall into place when the Ducks see how he plays in his first professional hockey season next year with Norfolk.

Weight: 188 lbs.

Scouting Report:

“While 16th in the rankings might seem low after Cramarossa had such a fantastic year this year, it is only because of a stacked group of prospects in front of him. The Markham, Ontario native took a giant step forward this year, going from a 30-40 point average player in the OHL to a near point per game player. He had 63 points with the Belleville Bulls and continued to bring a nasty physical edge to his game as well. In his last year of juniors, Cramarossa tallied his best point total ever, and had a deep tournament run with Belleville. He is in a good place mentally to jump into the AHL and see if he can be an effective third line player who can chip in offensively.”

Next up in the series will be goalie Frederik Andersen.

The Ducks have some decisions to make this summer. They set aside a good chunk of their money in Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry this season. It’ll be a little bit of a different summer therefore. Also, despite the success, Bob Murray stated earlier that it will be a different team next season. Go ahead and make your predictions now.
