The award nominations keep on coming for the Anaheim Ducks franchise. A few days after Bob Murray was named a finalist for GM of the Year, Ducks Head Coach Bruce Boudreau was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award (Coach of the Year). Boudreau won the Jack Adams Award in 2007-2008 for his work with the Washington Capitals. The other two finalists are Paul MacLean of the Ottawa Senators and Joel Quenneville of the Chicago Blackhawks.

My predictions for this trophy are MacLean first, Boudreau second, Quenneville third. Well, this is the order I would put those three in. The work MacLean did with the injury riddled Senators is most worthy of the Jack Adams Award. The Sens lost some of their best players to injuries for long stretches of the season, including Jason Spezza, who is still out, Erik Karlsson and Milan Michalek. Not only did the Sens hold on to a playoff spot with all these injuries, they dispatched of the 2nd seed Montreal Canadiens in just 5 games. However, I never thought the Canadiens were serious contenders. I don’t think Quenneville should win the Jack Adams. His team is filled with talent and was expecting to be a very good team this season. Yeah they got off to that record start to a season, but is that the only reason he’s nominated? It’s not like his team went through the injuries the Sens had or led a huge turnaround season like the Ducks had. So, if Quenneville wins…….i don’t know. But it’s not right.

Reported by TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dredger, the NHL will open a SIX game outdoor series next season. One of those games will take place at Dodgers Stadium and be between the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings on January 25th! The other five games will be: Toronto Maple Leafs-Detroit Red Wings from Michigan Stadium (Jan, 1st), New jersey Devils-New York Rangers from Yankee Stadium (Jan. 26th), New York Islanders-Rangers from Yankee Stadium (Jan. 29th), Pittsburgh Penguins-Chicago Blackhawks from Soldier Field (Mar. 1st), and Ottawa Senators-Vancouver Canucks from BC Place (Mar. 2nd). Apparently the paper work still needs to be finished, but this is pretty much finished.

I gotta be honest with you guys, even though the Ducks will be in an outdoor game, I think having SIX outdoor games in one season is a little ridiculous. Part of the reason that makes Winter Classic so special is the uniqueness of the game. All this does is kill the attractiveness of the game. It used to be a must-watch, once-a-year game. Now, there’s six of them…..if you miss one….oh well….there’s FIVE MORE. I really disagree with this. All the NHL is thinking of is the $$$. This is going to rack in some major profits. We’ll see how all of the interest these SIX games get. I’m not really looking forward to them.
