The Komets’ Daniel Maggio is the team’s lone representative during this week’s ECHL All-Star festivities in Loveland, Colo.

Loveland, CO - Daniel Maggio has a little bit before taking the ice in Anaheim, but being the lone selection for the Komets in the ECHL All-Star Game certainly is putting his star on the raise.

With the game and skills competition this week, the Windsor, ON native is looking to impress the league and those higher up. Maggio will be take part in the hardest shot and accuracy portions.

Before he left for Colorado, the 21 year old had this to say:

“It’s pretty exciting. It’s my first All-Star Game. I’ve just been thinking about the (Komets game) … but as this gets closer, I’m getting more excited and it’s exciting for myself. This will be great to showcase my skills and it’s a different All-Star Game because we’re playing against the Colorado team. I think it will be more competitive than what you see on TV with all-star games. There might be a little bit of hitting and it could be more like a normal game. When I got up there (Bridgeport of the AHL), they told me, ‘Be defensively sound and your offense will come. Pick your spots.’ I played physical, hard in the corners. Winning your 50-50 (battles) is what it comes down to and that’s what I focused on. Defense first and the points will come.”

Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets ended the first half of the season on a low note by dropping their last two games. Fort Wayne rolls into the All-Star break with a record on 22-19-2. They sit in second place in the North Division of the ECHL six points behind the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Coming up this week the Komets only have one game due to the All-Star Game. The Komets will play next in Evansville as they take on the Icemen on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. EST.

Tonight is the Skills Competition and that starts at 9:00 p.m. EST and is available for free at www.americaone.com. Tomorrow night will be the All-Star Game where the ECHL All-Stars will face the Colorado Eagles, who are hosting the event in Loveland, CO. The live broadcast is also available for free and will air Thursday at 1:00 p.m. EST on NHL Network.

The stars from the week are Center Brett Smith, who had two goals and one assist; Goalie Kenny Reiter, who had two wins and stopped 73 of 76 shot he faced; and Forward Mike Hoban, who netted a goal in straight games.
