Pucks of a Feather is now on the clock in the 2015 FanSided NHL Mock Draft – time to break down our pick!

While the stinging loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in yet another Game 7 home loss in this year’s Western Conference Finals left a bitter taste in all of our mouths for a few days, Anaheim Ducks fans really have to feel pretty optimistic about the future of the team.  With stars Ryan Getzalf and Corey Perry proving they are still dominant forces, and with an incredibly young defensive core that could be scary-good in no time at all, the Ducks should be contending for Lord Stanley’s Cup for at least the next 2-3 seasons.

Still, as the WCF proved, the Ducks are still a second- or third-line scorer away from being a team that can win a series in which its best two players have been somewhat neutralized.  While Matt Belsekey, Jakob Silfverberg and Ryan Kesler enjoyed great postseason success, the reality is that Anaheim Might not be able to keep Beleskey and/or Kesler once their contracts expire.  If the Anaheim Ducks are wise, they will use the first-round pick in this year’s NHL Entry Draft to bring in a young player with natural scoring abilities, which is why we here at Pucks of a Feather have decided to go with Brock Boeser of the USHL Waterloo Blackhawks with the 27th pick.

94. Brock Boeser- RW- 6’1- 192ish From Minnesota. Committed to The University of North Dakota.<div>Ranking: 18 (Hockey Prospect) 27 (Mckeen’s Hockey) 27 (Central scouting) 26 (TSN) 9 (Craig Button, March)</div><div></div><div>’14-’15- USHL Waterloo Black Hawks: 57 GP 35 G (1st in USHL) 33 A 68 P 15 PPGoals (2nd in USHL)</div><div>             Hlinka Memorial Tournament Team USA U18- Captain of team: 5 GP 6 G 2 A 8 P</div><div>             13 career International games for Team USA, 13 goals.</div><div></div><div>USHL All Rookie Team</div><div>USHL All Star Team</div><div>USHL Most Goals</div><p> </p><p>The best thing about Boeser is that no matter which scouting site or prospect rankings site you look at, he is consistently in the top 30. Most see him going in the 20-30 range in the first round and that consistency is noticeable. He was the captain of a U18 USA team and was one of the top goal scorers during that tournament. Boeser is a big, strong  6’1 and he is a natural goal scorer who is a dynamic offensive talent. He is most known for an accurate shot that he can get off quickly. He is lethal with that shot on the power play and also knows when to slow down and set up his teammates. He is an underrated playmaker and his vision and passing ability should be noted as well. He has great instincts and he is noted as always being one step ahead of the defense. He is also a tremendous possession player and he uses his strong lower body to protect the puck, defensemen often have a difficult time taking the puck away. He has a high motor and plays well in all three zones but could improve defensively. He could improve his break out speed and if he does he will be a deadly offensive threat. He could be in the NHL sooner rather than later.</p>. Right Wing. Waterloo Blackhawks. Brock Boeser. 27. player
