Puck Daddy’s Most Disappointing Summer Series: Anaheim Ducks EditionJen Neale, Yahoo! Sports

"I wasn’t sure how to explain the painful destruction of a beautiful thing so I decided to make a list: Dustin Penner/offer-sheet/barn fight (wasn’t terrible in long-run); starting the season in London; miserable Cap management by Brian Burke; ancient relic Mathieu Schneider joins team; angry outcast Todd Bertuzzi joins the team; Bobby Ryan was promoted and demoted about six billion times pissing him off and making him moody; Scott Niedermayer stays partially, but not officially, retired until December; Teemu Selanne contemplates retirement until January; Andy McDonald was traded for Doug Weight; and other things too painful for my consciousness to recall. They lost to Dallas in the WCQF."

Don’t get upset guys. Puck Daddy has been doing this all summer for every NHL team.

This is pessimistic fan gold. If that’s you, enjoy. If you’re the optimistic fan, brace yourself. The article brings back plenty of (bad) memories, including that one recent memory that all Ducks fans hope gets erased next season.

Figured Out the 2011 Hart Trophy With Analytics  – Ryan Wilson, HockeyBuzz.com

"Today the focus shifts to the 2011 Hart Trophy. So far in this series I have only disagreed with the actual vote once in the three prior seasons (I had Crosby over H. Sedin in 2010).Here was the official vote from the 2011 Hart Trophy:1. Corey Perry, ANA 1,043 (67-47-8-1-1)2. Daniel Sedin, VAN 960 (51-56-9-4-1)3. Martin St. Louis, T.B. 332 (1-6-36-28-16)Corey Perry and Daniel Sedin were pretty tight in the voting and ultimately Perry earned his first and only Hart Trophy. Was it well deserved? Let’s look at the numbers."

Whether it’s baseball or hockey, I’ve never been a fan of analytics. I do like the movie Moneyball, but what has that strategy gotten the Oakland A’s? Plenty of early playoff exits.

But analytics can be helpful to a certain extent. Here, Ryan Wilson of HockeyBuzzed.com takes an in-depth look into the 2011 Hart Trophy voting using analytics. Based on advanced numbers, did Corey Perry deserve the Hart Trophy in 2011? Give it a read to find out.
