Clayton Stoner
Shoots: Left
Height: 6’4″ Weight: 216
Born: Feb. 19, 1985 (Age 29) Port McNeill, BC, Canada
Drafted: By Minnesota in the third round (79th Overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft
Stoner is, essentially, a bruiser.
He’s a big, solid, pylon of a defenseman who isn’t afraid to throw his weight around or to throw a punch or two.
He has more quickness and maneuverability than someone like Bryan Allen, but is far from the mobility of a Sami Vatanen, or Hampus Lindholm.
He’s just the type of defenseman Bob Murray and company were looking for: big, powerful, and edgy.
His major downsides include a lack of puck moving ability and his penchant for racking up penalty minutes.
Given the right coaching and being put in the right situations, Stoner could turn out to be just the shutdown defenseman Ducks fans were hoping for.
If not, he’s still a big guy that wont allow the opposition to push him around.
Stoner has been in the NHL for five seasons, all with Minnesota.
