With the conference finals currently underway, the order for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft is almost complete. The Anaheim Ducks will pick 24th overall, one pick in front of the Boston Bruins and one pick after the Colorado Avalanche. So, the current order of the draft goes as follows:

  1. Florida Panthers
  2. Buffalo Sabres
  3. Edmonton Oilers
  4. Calgary Flames
  5. New York Islanders
  6. Vancouver Canucks
  7. Carolina Hurricanes
  8. Toronto Maple Leafs
  9. Winnipeg Jets
  10. Anaheim Ducks (from Ottawa Senators)
  11. Nashville Predators
  12. Phoenix Coyotes
  13. Washington Capitals
  14. Dallas Stars
  15. Detroit Red Wings
  16. Columbus Blue Jackets
  17. Philadelphia Flyers
  18. Minnesota Wild
  19. Tampa Bay Lightning
  20. San Jose Sharks
  21. St. Louis Blues
  22. Pittsburgh Penguins
  23. Colorado Avalanche
  24. Anaheim Ducks
  25. Boston Bruins
  26. Tampa Bay Lightning (from New York Rangers)*
  27. Los Angeles Kings*
  28. Montreal Canadiens*
  29. Chicago Blackhawks*
  30. New Jersey Devils

The teams with the asterisk’s still have to wait to have their positions finalized, of course. Also, the Devils have the 30th pick as relief from an earlier penalty for salary cap issues when they signed Ilya Kovalchuk in 2010.

So, the Ducks also have the 10th overall pick, due to the Bobby Ryan trade. This is the first time the Ducks have had the 10th overall selection and its the first time the Ducks have had the 24th pick. Last year, the Ducks picked 26th, and used that on defenseman Shea Theodore. Since I don’t have too much to discuss right now regarding the draft, I’ll just show you guys the last five selections in the Ducks’ positions in the draft and some notable 10th and 24th overall selections.

There will be a lot more draft coverage in the next month. I’m sure there will be another Fansided NHL Division Mock Draft, like the last two years. I will make sure to do my usual pre-draft potential pick posts. I will also consider updating the Ducks’ current prospect system and take a look at some positions that we may need to address in the draft.
