Sochi Soundings: Olympic News Updates
By Dani
Good Morning everyone! It’s a new day and it is now a guarantee that one of the Olympic Anaheim Ducks will return from Sochi, Russia with a medal of some sort; in fact there will be three medals coming back. Each of the remaining four teams has at least one player from the Ducks’ active roster.
If you want to check out the medal totals, you can do that here. *SPOILER ALERT* Don’t look if you are waiting for the primetime television coverage.
After Russia was eliminated from the men’s hockey tournament yesterday, their coach met the press. His comments were quite facetious but what else was he supposed to say? The pressure put on him to produce was immense and the players weren’t able to live up to the expectations.
The Islanders’ John Tavares is out of the tournament and will not return to NHL play before fall, next season. The preliminary report cites a torn MCL and/or meniscus damage but has not been confirmed. Tavares is reported to be staying in Sochi, Russia for as long as Team Canada remains in the tournament. You can read the report and see a replay of the hit from the game against Latvia here. This doesn’t help the argument of allowing NHL players to compete in the Olympics.
If you’d like to get a full run down on the events and the news you can read this. *SPOILER ALERT* Some info in the story may spoil your primetime viewing.
