Ok, so I was hoping to make this post before the game on Sunday, but like I said in my last post, my laptop hard drive crashed so I was unable to do so. Well, I’m doing it now as I sit in the library at school. So, Bobby Ryan returned to Honda Center on Sunday. And he scored. There was a mixture of boos and cheers. So, I asked a question on twitter to fans asking if they booed or if they cheered. Here are some of the responses:
@PucksofaFeather no i stood and cheered

@pucksofafeather No reason to do either.

@PucksofaFeather Thought to myself "that was nice!" and felt like it closed a chapter for everyone.

@ShadowOftheBat @PucksofaFeather I was happy for Bobby, AFTER the game, but never cheer for anyone who scores against us.

@PucksofaFeather Neither, but I feel like I can finally move on. Good way to end that chapter.

@PucksofaFeather I rolled my eyes and thought, "Bobby would score on us". I was happy for him though.

@PucksofaFeather Conflicted silence.

@PucksofaFeather If Bobby had scored later in the game when the result was certain he'd have received a better response.

Ok, so I was right. There were a mixture of boos and cheers. Among those who booed, it seems nobody booed because they hate or dislike him, which is good because I don’t feel there is a legitimate reason to hate or dislike him. If anyone hates or dislikes him because of how things went down with Bobby and the longtime trade rumors and him saying “just do it,” you need to get over it. For those people, just put yourself in his shoes in that situation? How would you feel? Anyway, then some people openly cheered, some people were conflicted, some people were “happy” but didn’t cheer, and then some people were indifferent.
Any kind of response, except where you don’t boo because you hate or dislike Bobby, was a valid response to him scoring the other night. In my opinion, I wanted him to score, but only if the Ducks wound up winning the game. Also, I wanted him to score because I have him in one of my fantasy leagues. Anyway, some people pointed out that this was finally giving “closure” to the whole Bobby thing and maybe that’s exactly what everyone needed to happen. It’s almost like the ending to Mean Girls; girl world or whatever they called it was finally at peace….
