The Ducks have announced that twenty two year old prospect Peter Holland has been shipped to Norfolk. The Ducks had been looking for Holland to fulfill his promise and potential, that had him drafted 15th overall in the 2009 entry draft, and win the second line center job in training camp. Unfortunately Holland was not able to secure the job and Anaheim made a deal with Washington to bring in Mathieu Perreault. Perreault in 3 games so far has 2-1=3, and has instantly connected with Teemu Selanne and Jakob Silfverberg to solidify the second line. Nick Bonino slid down to the fourth line thus pushing Holland back to the minors.

While it makes sense to have Holland playing top 6 minutes in Norfolk versus bottom 6 minutes in Anaheim, the Ducks can’t wait forever for Holland to deliver on his potential. Barring an injury or lights out play by him in Norfolk, Holland may be relegated to spending a good chunk of time in the minors this season. While he is still young and provides depth for the Ducks his best value may lie in a trade and upgrading the defensive corp.

Personally I hope the Ducks hold onto Holland at least for one more year. Saku Koivu is definately departing next year and although we also have Rickard Rakell waiting in the minors I feel you can never have enough depth up the middle.  Best of wishes the Peter in Norfolk where we will monitor  his year.
