Yesterday, the Anaheim Ducks announced the signing of Steven Whitney to a two-year entry level contract. Whitney is a college free agent who recently graduated from Boston College (Hockey East) and completed a very successful college career. He has joined the Norfolk Admirals.

The 22-year-old Whitney finished the season with a career high 26 goals and 19 assists for 45 points in 38 games. His 26 goals were good for second in the nation. The Reading, MA native finished his career off with 55 goals and 73 assists for 128 points in 160 games for the Eagles. Among some of the accolades, he won the Walter Brown award, which is awarded annually to the best American-born player in New England. He was also a part of Boston College’s NCAA Division I Championship teams in 2009-2010 and 2011-2012.

Whitney is listed around 5’7″, so he’s quite small. But, he was able to survive and perform very well in the toughest hockey conference in the NCAA. We’ll see how he does in Norfolk for the rest of the season and then we’ll go from there.
