Phoenix, AZ – The Anaheim Ducks have now lost two straight against the Phoenix Coyotes by the same score and result. The Ducks started strong, but seemed to hit a wall in the later stages.
First Period:
The opening frame was pretty quiet. Matt Beleskey scored his fifth of the year just over the midway point. Jonas Hiller stopped all 13 Coyote shots.
Second Period:
In the middle frame though, Hiller seemed to loss a step. Antoine Vermette netted the equalizer with an opening minute goal. The flea bitten desert mutts had their second chance on the man advantage on Ben Lovejoy‘s second minor penalty but was unable to capitalize. When Hiller shot the puck over the glass, Bobby Ryan went into the box to serve the penalty. Keith Yandle netted his sixth of the year at the 6:34 mark. In the closing seconds, Ryan Getzlaf notched his eighth of the year on a short handed goal to tie the game heading into the final frame.
Third Period and Overtime:
The Ducks finally had a chance at the man advantage and they capitalized as Corey Perry netted his sixth of the year just before the two minute marking after getting tripped. The lead did not last long as Shane Doan also netted his sixth. Ryan put the Ducks back ahead at the 6:31 mark, but Michael Stone tied it up again just over a minute later. The Ducks failed to even get a single shot on goal in the extra frame. Getzlaf netted a shootout goal, but it wasn’t enough to give the Ducks the win.
