The Anaheim Ducks have sent rookie forward Rickard Rakell back to his junior team, the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Rakell made the team out of training camp and appeared in the first four games of the season, but hasn’t played since.
He didn’t register any points in those four games and was -2. However, the coaches were impressed with his play and I was as well. Some fans might be a bit upset with this move, but right now, this is the best option for all parties concerned. Before training camp, Rakell was playing extremely well with Plymouth in the OHL. In 32 games with the Whalers, Rakell registered 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points. He was also +10 and registered 12 PIM.
Since he is returning to juniors, the first year of his Entry-Level Contract will not kick in. He could have played one more game as part of his rookie tryout. After that, if he had played a sixth game, this ELC would have kicked in and he would not be able to return to juniors.
