Marco Cousineau Only Bright Spot In 2-1 Loss

Fort Wayne’s Brayden Metz celebrates with teammates after scoring in the first period Sunday night against Cincinnati at Memorial Coliseum.

Cincinnati, OH – The Fort Wayne Komets (26-24-2) looked sluggish coming out of the gate. Goalie Marco Cousineau put in a stellar performance as Charlie Effinger was placed on bereavement leave due to the passing of his grandmother. The Cincinnati Cyclones (29-16-6) came out with a furry.

First Period

The Komets took the ice with the same enthusiasm (or lack there of) they had in their last game against the Colorado Eagles. The K’s only had three of the 15 shots in the opening frame. Cincinnati’s Andrew Conboy shot a knuckler that eluded Cousineau at the 13:34 mark for the lone goal in the opening frame.

Second Period

The middle frame was just as lack-luster for the Komets as a whole. They gave up a power play goal to Matt Smyth 3:36 into the frame. Cousineau continued to keep the K’s in the game though.

Third Period

The final frame Fort Wayne finally woke up. Brandon Marino netted his 16th of the year to pull the K’s to within one. The Komets rarely finished a check and consistently turned the puck over. They had a power play opportunity in the closing minutes, but were unable to produce.
