Komets Turn In Lackluster Performance In 4-1 Loss To Cincinnati

Fort Wayne, IN – The Komets came into the night with a chance to tie Cincinnati in the standings, but were unable to do so. The offensive stars lacked hustle in getting back down the ice to defend in the crucial second period.

Thomas Beauregard scored the lone Komet (13-11-2) goal on a Jean-Michel Rizk pass 13:39 into the first. Beauregard was on the Cyclones from 2007 to 2009.

Cincinnati (15-8-2) got the equalizer 43 seconds later on a power play goal by forward David Pecan.

Komet goalie Charlie Effinger was about the only player who wasn’t flat. He made save after save, but the defensemen were unable to clear many of the rebounds leading to all three Cyclone goals.

Cyclone forward John Shalla made the score 2-1 on a 2-on-1 rush 3:25 into the second frame. Cincinnati controlled the puck for a majority of the period.

Ryan Lasch turned the puck over on the blue line to set up Cyclones forward John McFarland’s third period goal at the 5:52 mark to extend the lead. Cincinnati’s Garrett Wilson iced the game with an empty netter with eight seconds left.

The Komets look to rebound Friday night in Kalamazoo as they take on the Wings at 7:30 PM EST (4:30 PM PST). Audio is available through the Komets website.
