Anaheim Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller might not always be the best on the ice, but his masks are always top notch. He works a lot with Swiss designers Airxess. Some of the most noteworthy work has been the Darth Vader, all-black, stealth mask and the Switzerland mask Hiller wore during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Well, Hiller and Airxess are at it again, and this time they used a little of both those two aforementioned masks.
I don’t know if this tops either of the aforementioned masks, but this is definitely among them as some of my favorite masks. I love the black-and-white image of the Arrowhead Pond, I mean Honda Center. Also, a very small little image of the hold Mighty Ducks logo on the same side is a nice touch. On a side note, the day the Ducks revert to that logo/colors/jerseys will be one of the happiest days of my life. Not pictured is the back of the mask, which features a black-and-white image of Poseidon……….yeah I don’t know why either.
Overall, I love this mask and am looking forward to seeing it in action (ahem, NHL and NHLPA). Here’s a small piece of analysis from Padstracker.com:
“On this particular mask, all of the gold Ducks logos, plus the stripes on the crown, include a cool reflective gold effect, courtesy of Airxess’ Dan “The Man” Bongni. Alec (Alec Voggel, owner of Airxess) made sure to mention that those were Dan’s specialty, and as you can see, Bongni certainly mastered them on Hiller’s new mask.
“The contrast of the gold on the flat black background will kick ass on TV,” Alec said. “Around the icons, there is even some shiny black paint, which gives the gold logos a cool 3-D effect and appearance. “”
