Sheldon Souray Will Continue to Wear #44 on Anaheim Ducks

For those curious, recently acquired defenseman Sheldon Souray will continue to wear jersey number 44 for his new team, the Anaheim Ducks. He has worn this same number for the Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, and Dallas Stars prior to signing with Anaheim, so it came as no surprise that he would continue to wear it here in with the Ducks. Souray confirmed his jersey number earlier this month on twitter while responding to a fan (reformated for easier readability):

"@94scorer: do u kno what # u will b 4 @AnaheimDucks@SSouray: Yessir!! #44!!"

And just a couple of days ago, Jon San Agustin on Twitter captured a shot of the new Souray jerseys in the Honda Center team store:

Souray will not be the first Duck to wear number 44. Other players to wear the number include:

  • Myles O’Connor (1994)
  • Anatoli Semenov (1995)
  • Oleg Mikulchik (1996)
  • Antti Aalto (1998)
  • Rob Niedermayer (2003-2009)
  • Mike Brown (2003)

How do you think the new number 44 will match up to those who wore the number before? Will you be buying a new Sheldon Souray jersey? Let us know what you think, the comments are open.
