Earlier today, the Anaheim Ducks announced a new ECHL affiliation with the Fort Wayne Komets. The Ducks’ previous ECHL affiliation had been the Elmira Jackels (2010-2012). The Komets however will be making their ECHL debut this upcoming season after moving up from the Central Hockey League (CHL).

The Komets have existed in Fort Wayne, Indiana for over 60 years now, spending time in the CHL, International Hockey League (IHL) and United Hockey League (UHL). They have been a very successful franchise over that time. They have one won a total of nine championships, seven IHL Turner Cups, one UHL Colonial Cup and one CHL President’s Cup, which they won last season. In their last five seasons, they have won four championships.

The Fort Wayne Komets first game as a member of the ECHL will be October 12 versus Kalamazoo at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
