Ducks Sign Defenseman Prospect

Wednesday night saw the Anaheim Ducks sign another one of their drafted prospects. Defenseman Tim Heed was drafted by the Ducks in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, 132nd overall. Heed, 21, is a native of Gothenberg, Sweden and was born on January 27th, 1991. Heed is list at 5’11”-177 lbs. He played this past season with Malmo of the Swedish Allsvenskan league, which is basically the Swedish Elite League’s AHL. He recorded 4 goals and 26 assists for 30 points and 10 penalties in minutes in 47 games for Malmo.

He is scouted out to be an offensive defenseman, like the Ducks don’t have enough offensive defenseman prospects. I like to think of him as the Swedish Sami Vatanen. Heed is a playmaker on the blue line that sees plenty of time on the power play. He also is scouted to have pretty good poise and agility with the puck. So, maybe we will see Heed and Vatanen on the blue line during a power play in a few years. Hockeysfuture.com has him ranked as the 7th best defensive prospect for the Ducks. He is listed behind Justin Schultz, 1st, Sami Vatanen, 2nd, Andy Welinksi, 3rd, Sebastian Erixon, 4th, Kevin Lind, 5th and Mat Clark, 6th. He will either play in Sweden or in the AHL this upcoming season.
