The Anaheim Ducks (Ducks Daily Blog) are on the clock in the 2012 NHL Fansided Mock Draft.

Previous Picks:

1) Edmonton Oilers (Oil On Whyte): RW Nail Yakupov, Sarnia Sting

2) Columbus Blue Jackets (Fire That Cannon): C Mikhail Grigorenko, Quebec Ramparts

3) Montreal Canadiens (A Winning Habit): C Alex Galchenyuk, Sarnia Sting

4) New York Islanders (Eyes on Isles): D Ryan Murray, Everett Silvertips

5) Toronto Maple Leafs (Editor-In-Leaf): C Filip Forsberg, Leksand

With the 6th pick in the 2012 NHL Fansided Mock Draft, the Anaheim Ducks (Ducks Daily Blog) select from the Red Deer Rebels and Regina, Saskatchewan, defenseman Mathew Dumba.

This was a tough pick with so many talented defensive prospects available at this point in the mock draft. It eventually came down to either Dumba or youngster Jacob Trouba. However, Dumba is our selection. The thing that seperated Dumba from Trouba was Dumba’s physicality. He has been known to throw some big body checks despite being only 6’0″ and 183 lbs. He is complented on his great passion and love for the game. He goes out every shift and makes something happen, either offensively or defensively. He has been known to join the rush and with a booming slap shot, why not. He also has a certain swagger out there on the ice that’s very noticeable. He’s also not afraid to drop the gloves. However, in his aggressiveness, he has been known to get out of position at times to make the big hit. A little coaching up and experience will clean that right up. We think a pairing of Cam Fowler and Mathew Dumba can become one of the best in the entire league.

Here’s a short video on Dumba.

Overall, the Ducks have a nice group of top prospects, but when it comes to defensive prospects, they’re lacking a little bit. They have Sami Vatanen, who they are high on, and Justin Schultz, but he certainly looks like he is going elsewhere in free agency. So, they don’t really have any top defensive prospects outside of Vatanen and they’re defensive play could use a lot of help.

The Minnesota Wild (Gone Puck Wild) are now on the clock!
