Koivu and Selanne Reach Career Milestones

Although the Anaheim Ducks lost to the Colorado Avalanche last night, two Ducks managed to pass career milestones.

Teemu Selanne passed Jari Kurri on the NHLs all time scoring list and Saku Koivu played in his 1000th game.

Kurri has always been Selanne’s childhood idol and passing him was huge. That puts Teemu as the #1 finnish goal scorer. He collected his 1,399th career point with a power-play goal in the third period last night. It was his 659th career goal.

However, Selanne wasn’t focused on his accomplishment:

"“That doesn’t really make much happy right now,” Selanne said. “The win was the only goal we had. We couldn’t do it. … It’s a number anyway. Obviously it’s a big honor."

Selanne has always been a team player, and this shows how much he cares about his team.

Koivu however was able to play game #1000 tonight, which is a huge accomplishment. When you take into consideration that he has been battling cancer for more than 10 years, it is even more impressive.

"“When you talk to players that have got to 1,000 games, afterward they said that’s the one milestone that really means something,” Koivu said. “And it is. In my case, the cancer obviously makes it a more special accomplishment.”"

Koivu went pointless last night but did record 3 shots on goal. He has always been a favorite among fans and hopefully he will continue his career in Anaheim.
