Luca Sbisa’s Game Misconduct Overturned

facebooktwitterreddit

Luca Sbisa was charged with a 5 minute major and a game misconduct against the Calgary Flames on Monday.  He was charged with a hit to the head of the Flames’ Tim Jackman.

Check out the hit here. It shows the hit in slow motion from different angles several times.

It was an awful call by the refs which led to Sbisa angrily leaving the ice and Boudreau screaming at the refs. Sbisa clearly tried to make a clean hit but their heads collided which caused Jackman to fall down. Luckily Jackman returned to the ice later and no news of further injury has been announced.

I will give credit to the NHL though. They made a bad call and they fixed the issue by annulling the game misconduct. I never expected them to even analyze it to be quite honest.

Boudreau was happy they reversed their decision:

"“Hey listen, they made a mistake and to their credit, they saw the mistake and rectified it,” he said. “I’m glad things worked out because they probably wouldn’t have felt as good about it this morning once they looked at it and saw that it was totally accidental."

Sbisa on the other hand thought they were going to reverse it from the very beginning. Bit more optimistic than I…

Glad to have Sbisa cleared and even more grateful there was no suspension.
