The Anaheim Ducks have done it again, keeping their playoff hopes alive by beating the Calgary Flames 3-2 in the shootout. Beating Calgary was a crucial win, and the Ducks are now 10 points out of a playoff spot.

After a slow first period, the Ducks notched two quick goals to take the lead. The first one came from Bobby Ryan who took a nice pass from Lubo and snapped one past Miikka Kiprusoff. That was Ryan’s 20th goal of the season. The second goal was only two minutes later when Matt Beleskey tipped in a Sheldon Brookbank slap shot.

Alex Tanguay got the Flames on board when tipped in a shot just 4 minutes into the second period. The Ducks had their biggest opportunity of the game when they had a 5-on-3 for 96 seconds. Saku Koivu hit the crossbar and Kiprusoff made some excellent saves but the Ducks were unable to score. The PP is something the Ducks really need to work on.

The third period was much more energetic than the first two. Luca Sbisa received a major for a hit to the head, which led to a Jarome Iginla PPG to tie up the game. The majority of the excitement came post-regulation. The Ducks posted 3 shots on net but could not convert. Calgary had a solid chance when Iginla had a wide open net but he shot wide.

The shootout was an intense one. There was a total of 16 shooters (see order and results below). The Ducks got goals from Perry, Ryan and Hagman (GWG). Calgary got goals from Jones and Jokinen. The real story was the goalies who made some incredible saves. Hiller made several highlight-reel moves to keep the Ducks alive.
