Ducks Win 5 Straight, Beat Colorado Avalanche

That’s 5 in a row for the Anaheim Ducks!!! The Ducks beat the Colorado Avalanche tonight 3-2, improving to 8-0-1 in their last 9 games!

The Ducks continued their winning streak, improving to 11-9-0 under Bruce Boudreau’s reign. There was a brief moment in the late minutes of the third period where it seemed like the Ducks might be collapsing but they managed to hold on. Haven’t felt that one in quite some time…

Bobby Ryan and Ryan Getzlaf both had a multi-point game. Jonas Hiller faced 45 shots tonight and stopped 43 of them. I’d prefer he not have to do that again, but I’m glad he was able to. Tonight the Ducks also faced former goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

Ryan got the Ducks the early lead, by scoring a shorthanded goal on Getzlaf’s hooking minor. That is his 3rd of the season. The Ducks took a bad too many men penalty, but were able to kill it out with relative ease. Colorado outshot the Ducks 18-2, definitely not a good sign. But technically that is a 50% success rate…

The second period was much slower. Both teams shooting back and forth, but neither able to really accomplish anything. The Ducks were again outshot 13-8.

The third period picked up very quickly, when Getzlaf  scored only 20 seconds in tipping in a Selanne slap shot. Ryan put the Ducks up 3-0 when he sent a wrister past Jiggy.

A collapse seemed in the near future when the Avs scored twice in the final minutes of the game. Ryan O’Reilly scored first, finally being able to beat Hiller. Getzy took a hooking minor and the Avs Milan Hejduk capitalized. It looked like the Ducks were collapsing like they had so many times in the past.
