I’ve Changed My Mind

I have been lobbying for the Ducks to make a move, especially with captain Ryan Getzlaf. However, over the last few days, while the Ducks were winning some games, I’ve had a change of heart. I no longer want the Ducks to make any major moves.

Before I explain why, let me elaborate on the Ducks contract situation.

According to nhlnumbers.com, here’s a list of the Ducks upcoming UFA’s and RFA’s:

Unrestricted free agents:

  • Teemu Selanne
  • Jason Blake
  • Saku Koivu
  • Niklas Hagman
  • George Parros
  • Rod Pelley
  • Francois Beauchemin
  • Sheldon Brookbank
  • Dan Ellis
  • Matt Smaby
  • J.F. Jacques
  • Bryan Rodney

Restricted free agents:

  • Nick Bonino
  • Kyle Cumiskey
  • Iiro Tarkki
  • Ben Maxwell
  • Maxime Macenauer
  • Mark Fraser
  • Patrick Maroon
  • Luca Caputi

So, the Ducks are gonna have a lot of spots opening up on the roster this offseason, but not many guys that, in my opinion, are key to the future of the team. The big three will be intact for next season. There are some young guys that are going to have to fill in some holes, unless the Ducks decide to bring some of the older players back or sign some free agents. However, the Ducks top young prospects should all be on the team next year in my opinion. So, with the top three intact, possibly some other veterans in the mix and the top young prospects, I could see this team being dangerous next season. However, there is always that threat of some major underperforming, like we’ve seen this season.

I think this team is finally executing Boudreau’s game plan and system properly and it’s starting to work. We all know that this team has talent and can win a lot of games. If the Ducks, like I said earlier, can keep the roster and lines almost the same, perhaps some changes here and there with the prospects, like Etem, DSP, Palmieri, and maybe Schultz and Holland, coming up and possibly becoming NHLers, this team is right back on track next season. But that’s just me…..I might not have been too clear on this, that’s because I’m suffering from some of my migraines right now and I’m a little loopy from my medication. But, all I’m trying to do is make a point and start a discussion because that’s my job here. So, discuss.
