Selanne’s long awaited return to Winnipeg did not turn out the way it should have, but the fans appreciated it either way. Teemu was cheered during warm-ups, during the tribute, everytime he was shown on screen… you get the idea.
Game Recap
First Period-
- Teemu back in Winnipeg, crowd already going crazy during warm-ups
- Ducks give up early lead, as Kyle Wellwood gets one past Ellis (ANA-0, WPG-1).
- Ducks not looking great… still early though
- Blake Wheeler gets one through Ellis, who seemed to not know what was going on (ANA-0, WPG-2).
- Winnipeg doing an AMAZING tribute to Selanne. “Welcome back Teemu” up on the jumbo tron, as well as tons of fan signs. Teemu smiling like crazy.
- They show a video of Selanne highlights from Winnipeg and Anaheim, Teemu steps out and gives a wave
- Selanne sends a BEAUTIFUL pass to Hagman who buries it (ANA-1, WPG-2).
- Ducks look like they truly don’t want to disappoint Teemu tonight
- Getzlaf gets a nice return and sets up Perry (ANA-2, WPG-2).
Second Period-
- Just 31 seconds in, Alexander Burmistrov gets one by Ellis on a terrible shot (ANA-12, WPG-3).
- Parros drops gloves with Stuart, broken up pretty quickly
- Slower period than the first. They should show another Teemu highlight vid.
- Perry celebrates as he thinks he scored, refs say no goal. Goal is under review….
- No goal, was ruled inconclusive
- Andrew Ladd “scores” on a deflection in front. Ellis got completely run in to AND Ladd kicked the goal in. Refs let it go. (ANA-2, WPG-4).
- Refs made the wrong call, wouldn’t even allow a review. Ellis was knocked down WAY before the puck was even near. Ridiculous.
Third Period
- Zach Bogosian gets one past Ellis, who is having a horrible night… (ANA-3, WPG-5)
- Ducks should pull Ellis, not his night.
- If the Ducks plan to win, they need to draw penalties and convert
- They’re getting tons of PP, but can’t convert..
- Getzlaf sends a nice pass to Perry to pull the Ducks closer (ANA-3, WPG-5).
- A final standing ovation as Selanne is named third star.
Very unfortunate the Ducks couldn’t pull out a win for Teemu. The Ducks looked mostly the same, allowing sloppy goals. Ellis had a terrible night and should have been pulled.
