NHL Board of Governors Adopts New Realignment Plan
By Editorial Staff
The NHL announced today that they have approved a realignment plans for the league. The plan, which will go into effect next season, will get rid of the 2 conference- 6 division system and will instead consist of only 4 conferences.
The 4 conferences, which have yet to be named, are now divided geographically. Two of the conferences will have 8 teams, whereas the other two will have 7.
The top four teams in each conference will make the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The first two rounds will be played within the conference, with the first-place team playing the fourth-place team and the second-place team playing the third-place team in the first round. The winners will face each other in the second round.
The New Conferences:
First Conference-
New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Washington and Carolina
Second Conference-
Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida and Tampa Bay
Third Conference-
Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas and Winnipeg
Fourth Conference-
Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, San Jose, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado
So be prepared Ducks fan, we no longer have to worry about the Dallas Stars, but we have to worry about Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Colorado.
There is still a lot to uncover about this situation, but i’ll make sure to keep everyone informed!!
