Ducks Come Up Short, Fall to Minnesota Wild

The Ducks woes continue, losing 5-3 to the Minnesota Wild. It was a game of complete frustration where the Ducks couldn’t catch a break, and Minnesota got a lucky game winning goal.

The Ducks’ performance wasn’t their best all season, but they actually had offensive pressure when there wasn’t only 1 minute left (I know right?!).

Put down your pitchforks Ducks fans and stop blaming Boudreau.

Game Recap:

First Period- Tonight is Hiller’s 200th game, as well as Selanne’s 800th with the Ducks. Selanne sends a puck down to Perry who loses it. Fortunately Getzlaf picks it up and buries it (ANA-1, MIN-0). Hiller looks in top form right now Selanne does it again, by sending a pass to Koivu for the easy tap in (ANA-2, MIN-0). Ducks are looking pretty solid, but holding a lead isn’t their thing… Ducks PK looking tired, Heatley capitalizes and scores (ANA-2, MIN-1).

Second Period- Couple of penalties to start, but neither team can convert. Casey Wellman scores taps a puck in to tie the game (ANA-2, MIN-2). Only 32 seconds later, PIERRE-MARC BOUCHARD somehow shoots a blooper past Hiller (ANA-2, MIN-3).

Third Period- Selanne is busting ass, trying to get one in but he can’t seem to find the back of the net. Cam Fowler fires one from the point which deflects off a Wild defenseman (ANA-3, MIN-3). Boudreau has split up the RPG line (thank you!!!!). The Wild get a completely lucky goal as Clutterbuck charges up and passes it to Johnson, who knocks it in with his skate. The goal stands because he did not do it intentionally, he was skating forward and it bounced off. Ducks get a penalty which will last for the rest of the game. They keep passing to Selanne but he can’t bury one. Tons of chances on the PP. Cal Clutterbuck scores an empty netter (ANA-3, MIN-5).

Game Statistics:

  • Tonight is Teemu Selanne’s 800th game as a Ducks
  • It is also Jonas Hiller’s 200th NHL game
  • Selanne had his 7th multi point game of the season
  • Selanne is just four points from tying Johnny Bucyk for 23rd on the NHL’s all-time scoring list
  • The Ducks were outshot by the Wild 35-23

Hard to take this game, considering the Wild won on a lucky undeserving goal (yeah, I’m bitter).
