Ducks Give Blue Jackets Their Second Win of the Season

The Ducks took the night off during tonights game. Allowing the Columbus Blue Jackets to win their second game of the season. It was a pretty lousy effort from the Ducks, who only had a few flashes of brilliance.

It’s hard to continue to write about these very disappointing games. The Ducks have so much potential but I have been seeing very little of it this season.

Game Recap:

First Period: Just past 1 minute into the game and the Ducks are defending a 5-on-3 thanks to a Selanne high sticking and a Koivu boardin. Rick Nash capitalizes on the powerplay (CBJ-1, ANA-0). The Blue Jackets were dominating the whole period and controlling the puck most of the time. Selanne led a 2-0n-1 where he passed the puck to Ryan who buried it top shelf (CBJ-1, ANA-1).

Second Period: The Blue Jackets scored again just 1 minute into the period when Ryan Johansen backhanded a pass in (CBJ-2, ANA-1). One of the few times Anaheim looked like a real team, coming up with several great shots, but Mason was there to stop all of them. Fedor Tyutin sent a shot through traffic that went right passed Ellis (CBJ-3, ANA-1).

Third Period: Nobody scored during the period and again, it was mostly controlled by the Jackets. The Ducks had a few offensive pushes, but were again thwarted by Mason.

Stats:

  • This was Ellis’ second start of the season
  • Ellis stopped 18/21 shots Steve Mason stopped 19/20
  • The Ducks have lost 5 out of their last 6
  • Francois Beauchemin led all defensemen in ice time with 27:49
  • Corey Perry led all forward in ice time with 22:57
  • This was their 4th game of their 7 game road trip

Something needs to be done, and SOON. We don’t want the Ducks to get buried in a hole so big that there is no way out when they finally do figure it out. The lines need to be jumbled. and they need to call somebody else up.
