The Ducks will be heading to Helsinki Finland on October 4th where they will take on the Finnish team Jokerit. Then on the 7th, the Ducks will face the Sabres for their first game of the 2011-2012 season.

The first thing that comes to mind is the disaster in 2007 when they played two games against the Kings in London, and then played 3 games in for 4 nights (all of them were away games). They went 0-2-1 in those games and it led them to a horrible start of the season. This year should be different, seeing as they play in Sweden on the 8th, and then have their home opener on the 14th.

A much lighter schedule will make it easier on the Ducks.

Their opening game in Finland against the Sabres will no doubt have the crowd rooting for them. I’ve never been there, but from what I have read it seems like Teemu Selanne is a huge star in Finland. After all he has done, how could they NOT love him?!

NHL.com spoke with Finnish native, and forward for Jokerit, Teemu Pulkkinen. who is absolutely stoked to meet and play against Selanne.

“Of course,” Pulkkinen told NHL.com. “He’s one of the best Finnish players and good goal scorers. I want to score goals and make plays like Selanne makes.”

They will also get to play alongside fellow Fins Toni Lydman and Saku Koivu. Since this will probably be his last season, everyone is even more excited at a chance to see/meet him. The crowd should be absolutely ecstatic and I am expecting a great game.
