Training Camp Day 2: Continuing Improvement
By Editorial Staff
Day 2 of training camp has been finished and it looks like things are slowly coming together for the Ducks.
The Anaheim Ducks posted a few videos from training camp (instead of crowding the post, I will just link them for your enjoyment).
-The first video shows some good improvement for Hiller. There doesn’t seem to be any signs of Vertigo (knock on wood). He makes some solid plays and seems to be having a good eye on the puck.
-Visnovsky also showed some great defensive skills while defending the rush. He seems to be in great condition even though he had a shoulder injury over the summer.
-The biggest impression was Peter Holland who showed tremendous speed and no fear of crashing the net. He is definitely looking to keep a spot on the roster.
Carlyle had specific instructions on what he is looking for:
“We explained to the players and basically told them that we’re evaluating three things,” he said. ”We’re going to evaluate their ability to retain and their hockey IQ, the amount of heart that they display and the level of conditioning that they are competing at.
“Those are things that I’d think you can say are top of the list day in and day out. Specifically for players that are in a position to compete for a job here. There’s a lot of them.”
The Ducks suffered a few injuries today:
Bobby Ryan left training camp early with a strain in his groin while battling in the corners. He seems pretty positive that it is no big deal.
“It’s a little tight,” he said. “Not the time of year you want to fight through it and let anything flare up that can turn into something bigger. I thought I’d be a little wise to come in and make sure it was taken care of right away. Nothing that’s going to make me miss any time or anything like that.”
The other injury was defenseman Mathieu Carle who crashed into the boards during a two-on-two drill. Carle was attended to for a few minutes before he moved his right hand and then was lifted upright off the ice.
