Fantasy Domination
By Editorial Staff
Not everyone is like me and they generally do 5 or 6 fantasy leagues every season. I probably just made myself look like somebody who has no life, but believe me when I say my life doesn’t revolve around it. Anyways, while looking at the NHL fantasy rankings, I noticed something all of us Duck fans can be proud of.
Although not always making the headlines, the Ducks have some of the top players in the league and are dominant in their positions. Lets take a look at some of the NHL’s top fantasy rankings.
Alex Ovechkin taking the number one spot is no surprise, and neither is Stamkos at number two. But there he is, Corey Perry following up in the third spot. Ryan Getzlaf is at #11 and Bobby Ryan raps it up for the Ducks at #28. Good to see our Ducks getting in the top rankings in the league. Lets see where the Ducks tank in their individual positions.
Keep in mind, all my opinions are based on fantasy hockey rankings, not necessarily overall league rankings.
No surprise Corey Perry is taking the #1 spot after his stellar season and his Hart and Rocket Richard trophies. He is joined on that list by the one and only Teemu Selanne at #14.
Selanne is better than some of the players ranked above him, but age and the fact that he has yet to return is a big factor in fantasy hockey.
With Crosby’s health uncertain at the moment, Stamkos is ranked the #1 center for fantasy hockey this season. Ryan Getzlaf makes the top 10, ranking in at #7. He beats players such as Ryan Kesler, Brad Richards and Anze Kopitar.
I would have ranked him higher than Crosby, only because as of right now it looks like Crosby might not be returning.
Bobby Ryan finished off the top 5, trailing Ovechkin, Daniel Sedin, Zach Parise and Ilya Kovalchuk. Quite an impressive list.
In my opinion, defensemen is one of the most debatable positions when it comes to who is the best. It is also one of the trickiest parts of fantasy hockey. NHL.com has ranked Shea Weber has the #1 fantasy defenseman. Lubomir Visnovsky is finally getting some credit where he is ranked at #6. Cam Fowler is coming up at #45 which is great for only his second season. The biggest surprise to me was Kurtis Foster at #59.
Assuming a repeat of last season, I would rank Lubo at #5 due to his all around offensive and defensive play. I think Fowler could go up a bit higher, but it is what it is.
Jonas Hiller is a little low on the standings at number 14. The obvious reason would be because his vertigo symptoms may or may not come back. If they do, than he would be an awful pick for your team. If Hiller stays healthy, he definitely will be one of the best goaltenders this season.
If you please, there is a top 175 players of the league. There are three different people who ranked them, so that is why I left it alone. But take a look!
