Hello Ducks fans, my name is Sean McCaulley and I am the new staff writer for the Ducks Daily Blog here on Fansided.com Sports Network. Start off with a short introduction, I am 19 years old and my hometown is Lansdale, Pennsylvania. It’s about 40 to 45 minutes northwest of Philadelphia, but I currently live in Reading, Pennsylvania about an hour and 40 minutes west of Philly. I am attending Penn State-Berks which is located in Reading and my major is Security and Risk Analysis. I have been a Ducks fans dating back to the late ‘90s and early 2000’s. Mainly because of players like Paul Kariya, Steve Rucchin, Keith Carney, J.S. Giguere, Petr Sykora, and Teemu Selanne. Oh, by the way I am also a Philadelphia Flyers fan, but I will not talk about them here.

Okay, now to the stuff you really want to read. My overall opinion of how the team performed last year was okay. Yeah, yeah they got the fourth seed but it is quite possible that without Selanne and without the MVP-type season from Corey Perry that the Ducks might not have made the playoffs last year, or get as high of a seed. This year could be a very interesting year. It could be a type of season where they struggle again with the goaltending position if Hiller is not completely rid of his vertigo and no longer have the anchor that they have had for so many years in Teemu.

This is a young team with some young players that still have not made the step forward in their careers just yet. Players like Brandon McMillan, Dan Sexton, and Nick Bonino have yet to, in my opinion, prove that there ready to take the next step in their careers. I need to see more production from players like them. If that happens, this could be a very dangerous team with new acquisitions like Andrew Cogliano and Kurtis Foster. I like the acquisitions to the defense; Foster and Matt Smaby really make this defense look like one of the better most balanced defenses in the entire league. Now they just have to play like it, and that’s different.

Now let’s move on to one of my favorite parts of hockey, prospects. I cannot wait until some of the Ducks prospects reach the NHL. Dating back to his days with the Philadelphia Flyer’s minor league affiliates, Patrick Maroon has always been one of my favorite prospects. He’s got great size and can be a big power forward in front of the net. Emerson Etem, in my opinion, is the best prospect that the Ducks have. I think a lot of people would agree with me. The numbers that he has put up in juniors are outstanding. He can be a great scorer in the NHL, the same with another prospect that the Ducks have in Devante Smith-Pelly. The last prospect I want to talk about is Sami Vatanen. When he reaches the NHL, he will become one of the best offensive defenseman in the NHL. He’s a good skater and has good instincts, but needs to work on the defensive side of the game.

I look forward to writing more posts on here and I will try to talk about a variety aspects of the Ducks, but I will touch on some NHL news, and something else that I really enjoy is jersey news. Anyway, stay classy.
