Although we were told a decision would be made on July 1st about Selanne’s return, we still have not heard anything. The subject has been relatively quiet, but now that the majority of top free agents are being signed, it is creeping back up to the number one topic in the NHL.

There have been some ridiculous rumors of Selanne returning to the Winnipeg Jets. I have no idea where these came from, but anyone who believes them is seriously mistaken.

First off, Selanne has stated “its the Ducks, or retire”. Second, why would he return to Winnipeg? Nothing against the team, but he has no ties there. There is no real reason for him to return. That is all I have to say on that subject, now a brief update!

On July 12th, it was reported Selanne has been skating with his kids at home. According to

GM Bob Murray:

“His kids are at camp and he’s out there skating with them,” Murray said. “He feels fine. He said, ‘OK, let’s talk next week like we always planned.

“He says he feels fine. He feels good. We’ll talk next week.”

Why do I think Selanne is going to return? Several reasons:

1. He underwent knee surgery. Not that he wouldn’t do that either way, but it seems the reason is because he wants to make sure he comes back 100%.

2. At the age of 40, he scored 31 goals and 49 assists in 73 games. He can clearly skate with the young skaters. Also, 25 of his first 31 goals came in tied or one-goal games.

3. Another chance to play with his friend/countrymen Saku Koivu. He was clearly stoked to play with him last season, I am sure he would not want to stop now.

4. Selanne is still having a great time playing, why would he want to stop now? He is the heart of this team.

I really believe Selanne will be back, we can all enjoy one more year of Teemu!!
