…And We’re Back! All Star Fun, Ducks On A Tear and Danny Sexton – The Human Yo-Yo

Going into the break, the Ducks have won four of their last five and are looking pretty fine despite the fact that everyone and their grandmother who isn’t a Ducks fan keeps harping at me that our defense is still lacking.

The win against Columbus was a bit strange as the Blue Jackets seemed to be vacillating between aggression and diving, as if they couldn’t make up their minds – or maybe they were just trying to confuse Anaheim.

Early in the first, Corey Perry misplaces the puck behind the net and Dorsette absolutely drills him between the shoulder blades, driving him face-first into the glass. Fortunately, Perry’s tougher than he looks and returned in the second.

During Dorsette’s five minute major, both Selanne and Fowler score – Selanne at six hundred and something career goals and Fowler with his big number five.

The remainder of the game was an odd mix of almost-violence (Parros twice denied decent fights) and Blue Jackets diving faster than you could say “Sidney Crosby”. But the winner of the most unexpected moment was Teemu Selanne who usually avoids contact as if he’s allergic to the opposing team. Not this night. Perhaps frustrated that true retribution was not meted out for the Dorsette hit on Perry, The Finnish Flash drove a Jacket hard and fast into the endboards – hard enough to cause him to pause and clear the cobwebs before continuing play. I don’t think I’ve seen Selanne hit anyone all season!

Of course, all this could have been a byproduct of what the announcers called “a spanking” the BJs received at the Honda Center last month when we steamrollered them 6-0.

Speaking of Corey Perry, he, Jonas Hiller and Cam Fowler were invited to the All Star Game festivities where they all comported themselves well. In the Breakaway Challenge, Perry performed a nifty trick I’ve never seen before, Fowler was practically thrown onto the ice for the hardest shot competition (where he recorded a respectable 93+mph) and Hiller made some pretty cool saves during the game on Sunday.

And finally, just before the All Star Break, Dan Sexton was sent back to Syracuse…today the Ducks reported that he’s been recalled again. I think this is recall #6 and at this rate he’s probably going to break some kind of NHL bungee cord record.
