Ducks Slapped With Anti-Semite Suit

I’ll write about our SWEEEEEEET win against the Boob Jackets and more on Saku Koivu love later.

Right now I’ve got other fish to fry.

Jason Bailey, who was picked up in 2008 and assigned to our then affiliate Bakersfield Condors, recently filed a lawsuit claiming that he was subject to anti-Semitic remarks and denied ice time because he was Jewish.

The Condors’ coach and assistant coach were suspended for a time, apologies were made, and upper-echelon lips were zipped tighter than frogs arses.

Bailey claims that “from the beginning to the end of his time with the Condors, [he] ‘was subject to severe and/or pervasive harassment on the basis of religion by being forced to endure a barrage of anti-Semitic, offensive and degrading verbal attacks regarding his Jewish faith’”.

Okay, obviously I wasn’t there, I didn’t hear or see any of these alleged offences, but this sounds utterly outrageous!

I’ve heard of players trying to rile each other up with ethnic slurs on the ice, but outright verbal assault by your own coach?

Allow me to play Devil’s advocate for a moment. I’ll bulletpoint and you can make your own decisions.

• If the abuse began in 2008, why did he wait until 2011 to file suit?

• Why, exactly, weren’t the coaches’ suspensions and apologies adequate?

• If the abuse was as pervasive as the reports make it sound, where are the comments from outraged players who were witness to these insults?

• Bottom line. Could it be that Bailey just didn’t have what it takes to make it with the Ducks and someone convinced him this was a way to make some money?

Go ahead, blast me, but if you’re gonna play Devil’s advocate, you gotta go places that ain’t pretty, sister.
