Ducks Fall To Leafs

Despite a strong start and George Parros face-planting Colton Orr in the first, the Ducks let the wear and tear leak through and took a face-plant themselves in a 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere (26 saves) didn’t look like he was working all that hard against his former teammates, especially in the late going. Of the game itself, Jiggy said, “”I wanted to just have a strong game, not because I’m bitter or anything like that. You want to play well against guys you know. It’s a fun challenge. Seeing them this morning, you can have a little laugh, but when the game comes they want to score and I want to make a save. Thankfully, I made more saves tonight.”

Random Tweet on the Leafs site about last night’s game from JSG: “My thumbs are numb today.”

The Ducks view on the game (obviously) was a bit different. Said Coach Randy Carlyle, “We played about 12 minutes of hockey tonight. You can’t play 12 minutes of hockey and expect to win in the NHL.”

We won’t go to Teemu Selanne’s commentary. I believe he said something about being “disappointed” and followed up with some choice Finnish curses that Saku Koivu refused to translate.

This comebacker for the Leafs after the “Massacre at MSG” was impressive, but since the Ducks have played the most games in the league, we don’t have any wiggle room and quite frankly, losing to the Leafs is pretty freaking embarrassing.

Anaheim jumped out to an early lead with goals by Dan Sexton and Brandon McMillan in the first and seemingly energized by Georgie’s short but sweet pummeling of Orr (who did not return to the game…hooray!), but then they just fizzled. “Sleep-skating” anyone?

As a long-time Ducks fan, this was a painful game to watch. On the one hand, of course I want Anaheim to win because we absolutely have to catch up with Dallas, but I also don’t want Jiggy to fail. Especially now that it looks like Toronto are going to deal him.

Well, we face the Habs tomorrow at 4pm Pacific Time, for some reason I can’t find a watch party for the game, so I guess we’ll just hang out at home and try out the new gourmet burger joint around the corner! www.thecounterburger.com
