Cam Fowler’s Bloody Baptism & “Give Blood Play Hockey”

facebooktwitterreddit

Cam Fowler has received his proper NHL baptism – his first goal and then getting drilled into the endboards five minutes later by Shane Doan.

The hit was legal and no penalty was assessed.  Cam made a completely balls-out, coast-to-coast dash down the ice and came oh so close to potting his second goal.  Unfortunately, as happens many times when you’re blasting down the ice that fast, he overskated the net, blew a tyre and Shane Doan, who had positioned himself for a hip to upper body check, wound up slamming Fowler’s skull into the dasherboard.  Cam went down, clutching his face and when the whistle finally blew, Doan was shown repeatedly glancing back to check on his victim’s status.

Cam skated off under his own power, but the dazed look on his face had “rookie” written all over it.  But I’m not worried.  Despite his baby face he’s a tough kid whose gonna get tougher.  Remember when Corey Perry first started?  Everyone thought he couldn’t beat up someone’s grandma and now he’s pounding anyone who looks at Ryan Getzlaf sideways.

Oh yeah and by the way, we managed to win another game!  WOOHOO!

From The Ducks Website:

“Ducks center and team captain Ryan Getzlaf has been named the NHL’s Third Star for the week ending Oct. 17. He earned the honor after leading the league with eight points (two goals, six assists) in four games played during that span. Anaheim had a record of 2-1-1 in those contests.”

Random Game Comments From The Ducks’ Adam Brady:

“There is an odd stain of some sort on the ice right in front of the Phoenix bench. Nervous stomach for one Coyote?”

“Just realized I’ve been spelling ‘LaBarbera’ wrong for most of the night. Awesome. It’s not like we haven’t seen him in this building a million times.”

“Ducks start the third with a two-goal lead. I’m just going to leave that one alone.”

In Other News:

Luca Sbisa was shipped off to Syracuse to make room for Toni Lydman who – despite having scored twice in as many games – looked (and admitted to being) a bit rusty.  Of course, if he’s scoring while he feels ‘rusty’, what kind of break out are we going to see once he feels like he’s on top of his game?  Can’t wait to find out!

The pointing and laughing has now begun in earnest as the Kings have won three out of four games and Toronto and Dallas have perfect four for four records.  I feel like I’m in that Star Trek episode where the evil versions of the characters take over.

In funny news, New Jersey has won one out of six as of today.  Think they’ve started handing out free beer at The Poo?

Give Blood, Play Hockey

This past Saturday, Bobby Ryan and Kyle Chipchura made an appearance at the “Give Blood, Play Hockey” Tournament at the 949 Rink in Irvine, to sign autographs, pose for pictures, talk to fans and answer questions.

Although Ryan looked at times as if he had other things on his mind (most likely going over plays in his head and itching to get home to analyze the vids), he did manage to force a few smiles.  On the other hand, Chipchura looked like he was enjoying the chilly, overcast day with the fans.  Not sure if they gave any pints to the cause, but with the beating on the ice they have been taking, not sure they had any more left to give.  So I will give them a break.

The Give Blood, Play Hockey Tournament is a local competition that runs annually at the Irvine 949 Rink and all money donated goes to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC),  benefitting the Ducks pledge to build an Oncology Patient Care Room in the new wing of the hospital. Blood donations will go to the Orange County Blood Bank, so all you vampires and mosquitos out there, you know where to go!

DeviantHockey donated $250 to the cause and all proceeds raised from the sale of their dedicated stickers will go directly to CHOC.
