Trade Rumour Deemed “Ridiculous”

I can just imagine the Ducks GM Bob Murray piffing at the Orange County Register reporter and shooing him away like an annoying gnat when asked if the rumour about their trading Bobby Ryan to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Tomas Kaberle was true.

Bobby (the player, not the GM) is set to become a restricted free agent come July First.  His agent and the Ducks are currently conducting negotiations.  How long he will be signed for is anybody’s guess right now (Three years? Four?)  but Bob (the GM, not the player) has insisted that there’s no way in heck they’re going to let Bobby go.

As for their interest in Kaberle, that’s entirely possible.  That decision hinges on whether or not Scott Niedermayer decides to sign on for one more season.  Scotty’s supposed to make his decision early in July, but we remember the vacillation that happened last year (he didn’t resign until December).  Of course, everyone assured us that wouldn’t happen again, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
