All the punch-ups and injuries are definitely beginning to take their toll on everyone’s lines and wacky plays are abounding.
Sunday was a hockey fan’s dream come true…unless you were rooting for the Red Wings, Devils, Sens, Preds or Sharks. Fortunately for me, I wasn’t! Take that Marty I’m gonna win the Vezina Trophy Brody!
The Vezina Trophy winner is evaluated by the general managers of all 30 teams and is named in honour of Montreal Canadiens’ legendary netminder George Vezina who collapsed during a game in 1925 and passed away a few months later.
The other contenders are the Coyotes Ilya Bryzgalov and the Sabres Ryan Miller. All three of their records this regular season have been stellar and they’re all worthy, but I’m pulling for Bryzgy for sentimental reasons. After all, he used to be the backup Duck and pretty much everyone thought he’d be the one to don the mantle once Jiggy retired.
Tonight we’ve got Buffalo/Boston, Vancouver/Los Angeles (GO KINGS GO!) and Washington/Montreal. So, now, if you will kindly excuse me, I have to wash my Kings shirt. It smells like the inside of Jonathan Quick’s mask…
Speaking of which, how do hockey players stand the smell of themselves? Or have they all had their olfactory apparatus cauterized?
