NHL Regular Season Begins Today
By Omar Zaman
Ducks fans…welcome to October! Although the Ducks will not play their first game against the San Jose Sharks until Saturday night, there is no shortage of NHL action on opening day. In just a few hours, the Capitals will take on the Bruins while the Canadiens will open against the Maple Leafs. Both games will have double-headers attached to them as the Sharks will take on the Avalanche and the Canucks will open versus the Flames as the first games end.
If you’d like a glimpse of Sharks team that will play against the Ducks on Saturday you might want to watch the game. This game will also feature the retirement ceremony for Joe Sakic, who is an NHL great, guaranteed first-ballot hall-of-famer, all-around nice guy, and one of my favorite players ever. He’s the type of guy that even the often dirty-playing Chris Pronger wouldn’t give an extra shot to after the whistle…just because he’s Joe Sakic. Look for him to shed more than a few tears after retiring with the club he captained and won two Stanley Cup championships with.
The Capitals-Bruins and Sharks-Avalanche games will be broadcast on Versus (sorry DirecTV subscribers!). If you are one of the unfortunate DirecTV subscribers, then you can click here for the Caps-Bruins game and here for the Sharks-Avalanche. No, I do not endorse these websites and provide them for informational purposes only.
If you’re interested in watching the Canadian clubs play, you can click here to watch the Habs-Leafs and here for the Canucks-Flames. None of the links will work before the games are about to start. Same deal as above…I only provide these as information to my readers who may or may not be interested in them.
Make sure to check back here at the Anaheim Ducks Daily Blog for a full regular season preview of the Ducks as the weekend begins. Also notice that there is a new category in the navigation column on the left side of this page.
