Ducks Place McCarthy on Waivers

The Ducks have placed veteran defenceman Steve McCarthy on waivers after he was outplayed by several other Ducks defenders during training camp. The Ducks signed the free-agent defenceman to a one-year contract in July.

The defenceman was on a two-way contract so it wont have an effect on the Ducks’ salary cap number. If he clears waivers, he will probably be assigned to an AHL team. Other options for McCarthy include playing in Europe or the KHL in Russia. In 302 games, McCarthy collected 17 goals and 38 assists for 55 points, most of which came as a member of the Atlanta Thrashers.

The Ducks have 31 players remaining on its 2009 Training Camp Roster – 18 forwards, 1o defencemen and three goalies.
